Style Spotlight: Monajj on Effortless Chic, Confidence, and the Language of Style

Monajj showed up at the last Elevate Your Style with class and elegance. A black and brown combination was a show stopper as we strut through the city of London. Monajj came in a 4 button tan double breasted suit, a loose fit black trouser, brown purse and a black hat to nail it. She was every photographer’s top model choice and go to, with her killer pose and authenticity.

At Elevate Your Style, fashion is more than clothing. It’s a reflection of identity, growth, and the stories we carry. This week, we’re celebrating Monajj, whose recent birthday post on Instagram beautifully wove together her personal journey, her values, and her evolving relationship with fashion.

When asked to describe her personal style, Monajj is clear and intentional:

“My style is a mix of effortless chic with a touch of boldness. I like pieces that feel comfortable but still make a statement. It reflects my personality because I’m someone who values confidence and individuality, but I don’t like to over-complicate things.”

That balance between simplicity and statement, comfort and confidence, runs through her fashion choices and the way she presents herself to the world.

But like many people, Monajj’s connection to style wasn’t always this defined. Over time, her perspective has shifted and style has become more than clothes. It has become a mirror of her faith, maturity, and inner growth.

“I think style is a form of self-reflection. Over the years my style has shifted with my maturity. the more I understood the world, and the more I understood my religion, the more intentional I became about how I presented myself. The real turning point was realising that style wasn’t just about trends, but about aligning my outward appearance with who I was becoming on the inside.”

That realization gave her a new sense of freedom. Instead of chasing what was popular, she began to see fashion as an authentic way to express who she is becoming, day by day.

For Monajj, style has also been a powerful tool for navigating change. Moving from one country to another (Nigeria to the UK) was a major transition, and clothes became her unspoken voice during that season.

“When I first came to the UK, I was in a completely new environment and trying to find my place. I didn’t always have the words to explain how I was adjusting or what I was feeling, but my style reflected that journey. At first it showed me trying to fit in, and over time it evolved into me embracing more of myself while blending elements of both cultures. Even now, whether I’m dressing bolder when I need extra confidence or keeping things minimal when I want peace, style has and will always be a language of its own for me.”

Her perspective highlights one of the most powerful truths about fashion: it speaks before we do. For Monajj, self-expression and community are not separate.

“Your style speaks before you do. It starts with self-expression. my outfits reflect my identity and mood, and that’s always the foundation. But at the same time, style has this way of sparking conversations and creating connections. People notice, relate, or get inspired, and that’s how it naturally extends into community.”

This dual role of style as a personal anchor and as a bridge to others is exactly what makes being part of a style-focused community so meaningful to her.

“It means having a space where creativity and individuality are celebrated. Being around people who also see fashion as more than clothes keeps me inspired, pushes me to try new things, and reminds me that style can be a collective journey as much as a personal one”

At the heart of it all, Monajj sums up her philosophy with striking simplicity:

“Style is how I tell the world who I am before I even speak, it's a reflection of my culture, religion, confidence (or lack thereof), and state of mind, always evolving as I do.”

Her journey reminds us that style is never static. It grows with us, challenges us, and sometimes even speaks for us when words fall short. For Monajj, it’s not about perfection, but about alignment, bringing the inside and outside into harmony.
